L&T Private Tutoring is expanding its operations and seeks to appoint Tutors with great passion for Mathematics, Physical Science, Life Sciences and Accounting to provide tutorial services to learners in secondary schools across the country.

Tutor Position

Job Description

  • Prepare and facilitate weekly - Mathematics and Physical Science tutorial classes and academic support sessions for Grade 12 learners i.e. Monday to Saturday as per plan and schedule
  • Prepare and facilitate tutorial classes and academic support sessions for Grade 12 learners during school holidays i.e. March, June and September as per plan and schedule.
  • Be available during school holidays as well as weekends (as required).
  • Participate in training and development sessions to improve tutoring practices and learn new tutoring techniques.
  • Assess learners’ progress throughout tutoring sessions.
  • Monitor learner performance and provide feedback to learner using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate and build confidence in learners.
  • Maintain records of learners’ assessment results, attendance report and provide feedback of the analysis of such results to schools and business unit manager.
  • Administer, invigilate and mark assessments
  • Identify gaps in learners’ understanding, develop and implement intervention strategies and tutoring plans for students.
  • Communicate daily work, progress and challenges in written progress reports, in person, by phone, or by WhatsApp as per procedure.
  • Conduct scheduled support and mentorship discussions with each learner throughout the year.
  • Teach students study skills, note-taking skills, and test-taking strategies.

Job Requirements

  • Grade 12 Certificate with strong academic performance in Mathematics and Physical Science (minimum of 70% in both subjects)
  • Mathematics and Physical Science at a post matric level (i.e. tertiary level), is an added advantage
  • Previous experience in teaching and or tutoring, including knowledge of the DBE Grade 12 Mathematics and Physical ScienceCurriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) - is an advantage
  • Fluency in English and understanding of specific subject terms and language
  • Skills required: administrative; problem solving; verbal and written communication
  • Candidates local to areas mentioned below will be preferred

Lead Tutor Position

Job Description

  • Responsible for planning, monitoring, appraising and reviewing Tutors’ daily activities, including communicating job expectations
  • Manage and oversee the work done by tutors at the different schools as per expected quality, in particular the planning, school schedules and quality delivery of the tutor activities
  • Responsible for providing tutors with work resources and ensuring the use of these i.e. attendance registers, assessment guidelines and work schedules
  • Conduct scheduled coaching, mentorship and training sessions with tutors to strengthen tutors’ knowledge and performance in delivering Mathematics and Physical Science interventions for Grade 12 learners
  • Work constructively with district officials and other stakeholders (including school principals, teachers as well as the Grade 12 learners).
  • Track and support the performance of all tutors under your jurisdiction.
  • Hold regular reflective meetings with tutors to review their needs and challenges.
  • Collect data from tutors and school and provide feedback to the L&T Provincial Manager.
  • Control and submit tutors’ timesheets and learners’ attendance registers weekly.
  • Develop own monthly and quarterly reports that will be submitted to the L&T Provincial Manager.
  • Attend project management meetings, as and when required.

Job Requirements

  • Degree/B-Tech related to Mathematics and Science.
  • Fluency in English and understanding of specific subject terms and language.
  • Knowledge of Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS).
  • Skills required: management; leadership; administrative; risk management; data management; logistical coordination; problem solving; verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a complex environment.
  • Previous experience in teaching and/or tutoring is an advantage.
  • Own transport and valid endorsed Code 8 driver’s license will be advantageous.
