L&T Private Tutoring specializes in student development programmes that support young people at a holistic level with emphasis to mainstream subjects at both secondary and tertiary level. This is done through the design and formulation of effective and efficient programmes to provide direct support to learners at various schools and institutions in our country. Our role is to improve the quality of results produced by our learners and students, to provide first time jobs and essential training to young graduates and current students, as well as to provide an impactful platform for companies to invest in the social upliftment of local communities. Why we do it!

Unemployment rate remains high in South Africa (at 30%) and yet lack of skill is still a challenge to many industries, more especially our mining industry. Careers related to Maths and Science remain in high demand in the country with many of our learners shying away from these subjects due to the perceived difficulty.

Residence from rural areas, mining communities and townships are categorised by high unemployment rates, lack of skills, poor matric results, no post matric studies etc. Although companies are blamed for not developing local people, many of the local people have performed poorly in their high school results.

While learners from suburban South Africa may have strong, well developed teachers and multiple tutors for each subject, learners from these areas have to make do with a just the support of a teacher.

Strengthening the quality of our Education and improving learner success will require collaborative efforts of both the Government, Private Sector and Organisations driven by Social Impact. With emphasis placed on rural areas, mining comunities and townships where the quality of education and the level of support is at its lowest.

Our classes are structured to supplement daily school programmes and are designed to fit in the existing school schedule ensuring effective use of available time. Our strategies are tailored to meet the demanding needs of learners throughout the year and are aligned to the Annual Teaching Plan of the schools as well as the assessments set out by both school and the Department of Basic Education.

Our 2020 Results

It is exhilarating to be a part of the incredible impact that L&T Private Tutoring and the various funders are having on learners accross the country. Our results continue to improve at our centers with the quality of the results also showing a steady rise and learner morale transforming year in and year out. With the support of learners in 2020,the impact of Covid-19 on learners was minimised with supported schools showing either improvement in performance or minimum decline when compared to the national average.

AngloAmerican South Africa (AASA) Education Programme

Twenty nine schoos were supported across Limpopo, Northen Cape and Mpumalanga as part of the AASA Education Programme. There were 827 learners enrolled in the programme and the following results were achieved:

  • An overall pass rate of 59% in Mathematics compared to a 52.8% national pass rate.
  • An overall pass rate of 66% in Physical Science compared to 65% national pass rate
  • An overall improvement of 10% was observed in Mathematics accross the Programme Schools.
  • Schools supprted in Northam & Thabazimbi area experienced a significant improvement from a pass rate of 58% in 2019 to a pass rate of 67% in 2020

Glencore Merafe Resources

Tirelong Secondary school was supported in 2020 throughout the year with a combination of online classes and face-to-face classes. There were 55 learners enrolled in the programme and the following results were achieved:

  • Grade 12 pass rate of 69% in Mathematics and 75% pass rate in Physical Sciences.
  • Grade 11 pass rate of 84% in Mathematics and 79% pass rate in Physical Sciences.
  • An improvement of 70% (Mathematics) and 56% (Physical Sciences) in the average marks for grade 12 to average of 41.6% and 36.8%
